Education

A free and valuable education is the cornerstone of a productive community (all three of my kids are graduates of Moore County public schools). Public education must be available on an equal basis to all citizens. We need to fund class size requirements as well as improve teacher compensation. Specific local decisions need to be made by local districts with input from the General Assembly. By investing in our schools we can positively impact economic growth and sustainability. The public school system has direct effects on job creation, residential growth, tolerance, poverty and crime. Voucher programs siphon much needed money away from public schools. Private schools should remain private. Diversity in school staff must be encouraged and role models must be recruited into the system.

We need to improve education by:

  • Raising teacher salaries
  • Eliminating vouchers for private school
  • Increasing diversity in core subject teachers
  • Full funding for class-size mandates and pre-K programs
